A 10-year transferable workmanship warranty, in plain English

Every full roof replacement we do comes with a written 10-year workmanship warranty. If our work ever causes a leak, we fix it. No pro-rated math, no fine print. And if you sell the house, it goes to the new owner.

What warranty do you get with a new roof?

Every new roof comes with two warranties. The manufacturer warranty covers the shingles or metal panels themselves and comes from GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, Atlas, or TAMKO. The workmanship warranty covers how the roof is installed, and that one comes from your roofer. Compass puts ours in writing: 10 years, transferable, on every full roof replacement.

A lot of roofers blur those two together. A big number on the shingle wrapper gets sold as if it covered the whole job. It doesn't. This page separates them so you know exactly what you're getting, who it comes from, and what happens if something goes wrong.

Who's covered

Three ways your new roof is protected

Two warranties come with every full replacement. Between them, they cover you, the materials, and whoever owns the house after you.

For you, now

Our 10-year workmanship warranty

This one comes from us, and it covers how the roof goes on: the nailing, the flashing, the underlayment, the valleys. If our workmanship ever causes a leak, we fix it. No pro-rated math, no fine print.

It's written into your contract, and it covers both asphalt and metal replacements.

For the materials

The manufacturer's warranty

The shingles or panels themselves are backed by the company that made them: GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, Atlas, or TAMKO. On quality materials that coverage runs for decades, often a limited lifetime, and you get it no matter who installs the roof.

If a shingle fails because of a defect in how it was made, that claim goes to the manufacturer. We help you file it.

For the next owner

A warranty that transfers

Sell the house, and our workmanship warranty goes with it. It transfers once to your buyer: written notice within 60 days of closing, plus a free transfer inspection. No transfer fee.

That makes a Compass roof real resale value, and the full transfer steps are laid out below.

Behind all three sits one promise: if something goes wrong, you call us. We figure out which warranty applies and get it fixed. You'll never be stuck between a roofer and a manufacturer pointing at each other.

The honest breakdown

What's covered, and what honestly isn't

The written 10-year workmanship warranty applies to full roof replacements, asphalt or metal. For 10 years, if a leak traces back to how we installed the roof, the fix is on us.

And here's what a workmanship warranty doesn't cover, because no honest one does:

Storm damage

Wind and hail damage isn't a workmanship failure. It's an insurance matter. If a storm hits your roof, we'll inspect it and document the damage so you can decide whether a claim makes sense.

Material defects

If the shingle or panel itself fails, that's the manufacturer's warranty, not ours. We'll tell you which one applies and help you file the claim instead of leaving you to sort out whose problem it is.

Repairs

The written 10-year warranty covers full replacements only. We stand behind our repair work, but we won't attach a 10-year promise to a patch on a roof someone else installed. That wouldn't be honest.

Transferable

If you sell your home, the warranty goes with it

A new roof is one of the strongest selling points a house can have, and a warranty that dies at closing wastes it. Ours doesn't. Here's the whole process:

1

It's in your contract

The 10-year warranty and its transfer terms are written into your replacement contract from day one. It transfers once — to the buyer of your home.

2

Written notice within 60 days

When the home sells, you or the buyer send us written notice within 60 days of closing. An email is fine, and there's no transfer fee.

3

Free transfer inspection

We get on the roof with the new owner, document its condition, and the remaining warranty term carries over to them.

If you're planning a roof replacement before listing your home, that transferable warranty becomes a real line in your listing.

Warranty FAQ

Straight answers

Are repairs covered by the 10-year warranty?

No. The written 10-year workmanship warranty applies to full roof replacements only. We stand behind our repair work, but we won't put a 10-year term on a repair. A patch depends on the roof around it, and most of that roof was installed by someone else. We'd rather tell you that up front than hide it in fine print.

What does a workmanship warranty actually cover?

It covers the installation — the nailing, flashing, underlayment, valleys, and everything else about how the roof went on. If a leak traces back to our work at any point in the 10 years, we fix it at no cost to you. It doesn't cover storm damage or defects in the materials themselves.

Does the warranty transfer if I sell my home?

Yes, once, to the buyer of your home. Two conditions, both easy: written notice to us within 60 days of closing (an email is fine), and a free transfer inspection where we get on the roof and document its condition for the new owner. No transfer fee, and the remaining term carries over.

Does the warranty cover metal roofs too?

Yes. The same written 10-year workmanship warranty covers full metal roof replacements and full asphalt shingle replacements alike.

What if my roof leaks after a storm?

Storm damage is an insurance matter, not a workmanship failure, so it runs through your homeowner's policy rather than our warranty. We'll inspect the roof, document what we find, and tell you honestly whether it looks like storm damage, a material defect, or something on us. And if it's on us, we fix it under the warranty.
